What is a Chromebook?
A Chromebook is a type of laptop known as an "internet appliance" running Chrome OS as its operating system. The devices are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing "in the cloud".
We gave each 8th grader (Class of 2019) an Acer C720 chromebook for the 2014-15 School Year. This was our inaugural year as a Chromebook 1:1 school. Previously these students spent two years with iPads in our iPad 1:1 rollout.
Last Spring (2014) we started a model teacher cohort of about 30 teachers and technology people who would be interacting with the 8th graders this year and handling the Chromebooks' distribution, troubleshooting and overall use and rollout.
We have had a successful year thus far (as of April 13). Students are using their chromebooks in classa and at home, and seem to be finding them easy to use and convenient.
